Hanns-Christoph Schuster was born in 1937 in Ebersbach/Sachsen in the Oberlausitz region of Germany. He matriculated in 1958 in Salzgitter. He studied church music in Lübeck and at the Music Academies (Musikhochschulen) of Hamburg and Hanover. In 1962 he graduated with honors from the St. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. Later he studied composition with Prof. Petrassi in Rome, and keyboard with Prof. Ruzicková in Prague.
From 1963 to 1976 he was a professonal church musician in Salzgitter. He 1978 he commenced a career in theater music, as stage composer for the Mainz City Theater (thru 1989). Since 1991 he has been the musical advisor to the Saarland City Theater in Saarbrucken. He has won numerous prizes for composition in Germany, France and Italy, and has appeared in concert tours in Eastern Europe, Russia, the USA and Japan. He has recorded on EMI-Electrola, Telefunken-Decca, Darnol, Philips France, and others.
