Liduino José Pitombeira de Oliveira was born in Russas, Ceará, Brazil on October 6, 1962. He is
presently instructor of Composition at Louisiana State University, where he received his PhD in Composition
with a minor in Theory in 2004 under the guidance of Dinos Constantinides. He received his Master of
Music Degree from Louisiana State University (Summer of 2000) and his Bachelor of Music degree from Universidade Estadual do
Ceará; (Brazil), in the Spring of 1996. Soon after graduation he began to teach at the same University. He taught Harmony,
Counterpoint and Analysis. He studied composition with Vanda Ribeiro Costa (1985-91), Tarcísio José de Lima (1985-88), and
José Alberto Kaplan (1991-1998). For twelve years he served as performer and Musical Director of the Syntagma Ensemble, in
Brazil, a group that performs Early Music and Brazilian Folk Music. Performances of his works have been given by Syntagma,
Orchestra de Câmara Eleazar de Carvalho, The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet, Louisiana Sinfonietta, Louisiana Contemporary
Chamber Players, Arta Woodwind Quintet, Red Stick Saxophone Quartet, New York University New Music Trio, and Orquestra
Sinfônica do Recife. He is a member of ASCAP, the National Association of Composers-USA, American Music Center, Society of
Composers, Inc., and Sociedade Brasileira de Música Contemporânea.
He was awarded the 2003 MTNA-Shepherd Distinguished Composer of the Year prize for his piano trio,"Brazilian Landscapes No.1".
