For mixed choir, SATB, unaccompanied. Duration, approx. 3' (original version) or 3'45 with optional coda. Latin with English sub-text. This beautifully expressive setting of the text, never before published as a separate octavo, is edited by Wilbur Skeels, who has also included a separate extended ending (CQ9906A) to accommodate the extended version of the text (using Matthew's Gospel), in English only. Suitable both for liturgy and concert use. Listen to .mp3 audio file [1.65MB].

  • CQ9909     Tantum Ergo,  SATB, $1.65      View Sample
For mixed choir, SATB, unaccompanied. Duration approximately 2'25". Latin text. Composed in 1910, first published in 1952. New and corrected edition, the first in octavo.
  • CQ2000     Ave Verum and  Panis Angelicus,  SATB,  $1.95      View Sample
Two octavos in one! Not available separately. For mixed choir, SATB, unaccompanied. Both with Latin text. Ave Verum was composed in 1930, Panis Angelicus in 1950. New and corrected edition of both works. Ave Verum is about 1'45" in duration, Panis Angelicus about 2'45".

  • CQ2003     Préces Sem Palavras (Prayers Without Words),  TTBarBarB, $1.65      View Sample
For 5-part male choir (two tenors, two baritones, bass), a cappella. Composed in 1931, out-of-print for nearly 50 years, and now available in octavo for the first time. Approx. 3'0" duration. Vocalese text. "Villa-Lobos has added to the imagery of prayer with this piece. No gentle ascending incense smoke, but rather the whoosh of a fireworks rocket streaking toward the sky, marks the cadence of this wordless, but not inarticulate orison, which may owe more to indigenous native practice than to Christian liturgy."

  • CQ2015     O Salutaris Hostia, $1.65      View Sample
Includes both the 1915 version for Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass (or Countertenor, Tenor, Baritone and Bass), and the 1916 version (eight measures longer) for SATB. This a cappella setting of the hymn text by St. Thomas Aquinas ("O saving victim, open wide the gate of heaven to man below"), is challengingly chromatic and expressive. Duration, each about 3'00" +. Latin text.

  • CQ2020     Ave Maria (1945) for 6 voices, $1.65      View Sample
This setting for SSATBB is Villa-Lobos's last of many settings of the Ave Maria. Latin text only. 6 pp. Duration about 3'25". Originally published in the 1951 Musica Sacra collection, this is its first appearance as a separate octavo.
