FAUXMERCIAL #8
DATE: September 12, 2007TO: Jesse Spungin
Director of Marketing
ConAgra Foods
1 ConAgra Drive
Omaha, NE 68102-5001Dear Sir:
Who is the genius who chose to use the music from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and parody it for the Hunt's Manwich commercials?
It's bad enough that ConAgra should be so crass as to promote food with one of the most-loved classical works of all time. But the parodied words are doubly offensive. In addition, perhaps your company doesn't understand that the chorus parodied is also used as a hymn throughout the churches of America.
So, well done! You have managed to offend millions of viewers by mocking something very dear to them. How this promotes your commercial interests must remain a mystery.
We have posted this example of a FAUXMERCIAL on our website which receives thousand of hits from music lovers and we ask you to withdraw your commercial from the media. We look forward to reporting a positive response from your company.
