FAUXMERCIAL #3
DATE: June 9, 2004
TO: Toyota Motor CoDear Sirs: Your commercials for the Toyota Highlander make use of the Dies Irae hymn from Verdi's Requiem as background music. This extremely inappropriate use is now featured on our FAUXMERCIAL site as an example of corporate ignorance or lack of sensitivity. Music lovers are hardly going to buy a vehicle being hyped with one of the geatest pieces of DEATH MUSIC of all time! Beyond that, it is a disrespectful use of a classic work that has been meaningful to many in their bereavement. We ask you to remove this music from your advertising. We look forward to reporting your decision on our website.
