A published poet, her work has appeared in such literary journals as UCLA's Westwind, South Dakota Review, University of Wisconsin's Cream City Review, and Blue Unicorn, among numerous others. In 1988 she received the Dorothy Daniels award from the National League of American Pen Women for her poem "Maybe Her Nature is Wildness." In 1996, three of her poems were published in the Spoon River Poetry Review, two of which were finalists in the journal's annual Editor's Prize Competition. In her words, "Two passions nourish and energize my life, those of language and music." A charter member of the United Methodist Church in Westlake Village, Chapman has composed the music and lyrics to seventeen original pieces for that congregation. In 1994, the church commissioned the nationally renowned conductor/composer Lloyd Pfautsch to compose a piece on the occasion of its twenty-fifth anniversary; Chapman was invited to collaborate with him as lyricist on the celebratory work, "A Day for Singing," which was published by Lawson Gould. A long-time member of the Westlake United Methodist church choir, she also sings with the mixed quartet "Grace Notes" and accompanies a children's choir. She currently sings with the twelve-member women's a cappella group "One Voice" under the direction of Terry Siegel. Her original carols "Listen: a Calypso Carol" and "In the Crystal Starlight" have been performed by the Los Robles Master Chorale and by the former Conejo Symphony.
